As reported by Construction Equipment in their article “The Latest 60K- to 80K- Excavators”, while compact and electric excavators have dominated recent industry discussions, mid-to-large excavators in the 60,000- to 80,000-pound range are seeing significant advancements. Leading manufacturers like Link-Belt, Volvo Construction Equipment, and Caterpillar have introduced new models in this category, integrating technology designed to enhance efficiency and ease of operation.

One notable industry trend is the decline in hybrid excavator promotions, as manufacturers shift their focus toward battery-electric and hydrogen-powered prototypes. While these alternative power solutions continue to develop, the largest electric excavator currently available in North America from a major manufacturer is the 57,000-pound Volvo EC230, which falls just short of this weight class.
