At least 31 states currently have Idle Limiting Regulations that if not adhered to can lead to fines in excess of $24,000.00 and imprisonment of up to 1 year. From there you will have a choice of the complet EPA listing by state or the ATRI compendium of Idling Regulations. This website also contains a lot of other useful information. Subjects like Alternative methods to Idling and the effects of excess Idling on the environment. There is also a counter that shows the gallons of fuel that are currently being wasted by excess Idling. Many of the truck manufacturers have now incorporated a new exhaust system that allows the truck to burn cleaner and therefore be in compliance with the new anti-idling laws. This however doesn't address the cost of fuel associated with excess Idling. Malone Specialty Inc. had conducted tests that prove controlling the time an engine can Idle can save up to 25% in fuel expenses.
